Computer & Key Reprogramming
Attention Lansing PFS Auto Care now offers computer reprogramming and factory reflashing of your vehicle’s computers and theft system.
It is a little known fact that todays vehicles have to have their computers updated just like your desktop or laptop computer does.
On average at least once every couple of years there is an update made available by the manufacture for your vehicle. Many common complaints of idle issues, stalling, rough running or weird quirky problems your vehicle has can be fixed by a simple reflashing of the computer. Todays vehicles now have at least 8-10 computers that need to be updated regularly.
Also as your vehicle ages the parameters in which your vehicle operates changes as well. These parameters have to be changed in the computer or the service engine light will illuminate. Most repair shops do not have this equipment so instead they throw part after part at your vehicle until they give up and send you on your way!
Many times we have found that there is a computer update for your vehicle which would have widened the computer parameters thus turning off your check engine light.
This especially applies to emission related codes like the common p0420 & p0430 catalytic converter codes that set on every vehicle around 100,000 miles!
Most of todays vehicle require that many of the electronic parts that are installed on your vehicle be reprogrammed prior to or after installation. This is why you will be told that you have to bring your vehicle to the dealer to be repaired when this is not the case.
Typical reprogramming cost range from $125.00-$200.00. Our shop has the ability to do GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota and many other makes and models.
Another common repair that requires computer reprogramming is if your security light flashes on or causes the vehicle not to start. Once the body control module or ignition lock cylinder is replaced the theft system has to be relearned to the new part or on Fords the new keys have to be programmed.
So the next time your vehicle is having a weird problem that no one can seem to figure out give PFS Auto Care a call and have us update your vehicles computer.
