Change Differential Fluid
Differentials have fluid that needs to be drained out and changed regularly.
Differentials can be found on vehicles that are rear wheel drive,
4 wheel drive(4×4), and all wheel drive (awd).
Since their are so many different fluids that these differentials require it is highly recommended you go to a shop that has the ability to look up the factory recommended fluid that should be put back in the transmission. You do not want the wrong fluid to put back into your differential.
Often times the dealer will change or update the fluid specifications for these vehicles over time.
If the wrong fluid is installed it can be drained out without too much damage if done right away.
The fluid should be changed every 30,000-60,000 miles. Changing the differential fluid will keep your differential gears, ring and pinion and bearings to operate smoothly and eliminate wear on the gears and bearings that take the abuse of our daily driving.
How much does it cost to replace my fluid?
Typically the cost is around $80 and can be as much as $150 depending on how much fluid the differential holds and what type of fluid is required. Whenever possible only use full synthetic fluids to fill the differential. This will eliminate wear and tear and save fuel economy.
